LEGACY
I am the granddaughter of Romeo Musa (Musa da Calice, 1882-1960) an accomplished Italian painter, printmaker, photographer, illustrator, and author. During his lifetime my grandfather produced hundreds of works of art including numerous frescos and book illustrations -- most notably a series of 260 woodcuts for Kenneth Graham’s The Wind in the Willow (published in 1935).
Romeo Musa received his formal training at the Istituto di Belle Arti in Florence under the tutelage of Adolfo De Carolois, a major figure in Italy’s Art Deco Movement. He served as a draftsman for the military and later taught at the Institute Magistrale of Milan from 1933-52. Today the literary and artistic oeuvre of Romeo Musa is permanently on display in the Seminario Vescovile, Bedonia, Italy; the National Museum of Molise, Castello Pandone, Venafro, Italy; and the Convitto Nazionale Mario Pagano in Campobasso, Italy.
