The Thrift Shop Diary
This entry was inspired by real life events. When I was a graduate student and broke, I used to redeem my cans and bottles on Wednesdays and then go The Goodwill and buy clothes about once a month.
Wednesday, June 10th, 2:56pm Dear D., There are days when I leave the Salvation Army feeling as if I got everything for free. Today was one of those days. First, I found a pair of shorts for myself (@ $3.99); then I found a shirt for Jules (@ $1.99). Because it’s Family Day, the total came to $2.98. So I opened my wallet and discovered only twenty-dollar bills. Rather than break a twenty, I checked my purse and paid the $2.98 in quarters, dimes, nickels, and yes, eight pennies. I left the store thinking: “I just bought about thirty dollars’ worth of merchandise with spare change.” No wonder I’m an addict.
